A2 Identify target audiences and potential clients

A target audience is someone that you want to attract, someone who need your services and people who may need your services in the future.

My target audience for my music is 16-18 who are interested in funk type music and who are interested in starting their own career and making their own music inspired by mine. I came to this solution by researching the types of music teenagers like to listen to. I came to discover my target audience by conducting some primary research. What I did was had a look at the demographic for other artists of the genre I am most interested in and built my target audience of that information. Potential clients could mean anything from record label managers to social media platforms including SoundCloud and Spotify.

Some clients I could ask to help me with my music include my course mates on the Music Technology course. Leon Place - Recorded guitar while they performed with band. It would be good to work with him as they can play many genres of music on guitar. Jules Peacock - Recorded vocals whilst they performed with band. It would be good to work with them as they are good at singing and can adapt their voice to any genre of music. Ayden Blackman - Recorded bass whilst they performed with band. It would be good to work with him as he is a good bass player and could be used to record basslines for my music. Kieron Reid - Recorded keyboard whilst they performed with band. Joseph Lowther - Recorded drums and vocals whilst they performed with band. It would be good to work with him as his skills as a drummer help songs come alive. Billie Shipley - Recorded vocals whilst they performed. Ashley Thompson - meant to record vocals but issues. This has been postponed. It would be good to work with him because of his rapping skills. Ritchie Swales - meant to record vocals but issues. This has been postponed. It would be good to work with him as he knows many producers and it would necessary be good networking.

One area that my career path can relate to is Studio Recording/Engineering as I want to be a producer who records artists and puts together the song. One professional practitioner related to Studio recording/engineering is Chromeo. They make music via their own label ‘Juliet Records’ and are majorly successful in America.

As a musician you need to Train and Practice regularly to keep skills to a high standard Turn up to rehearsals on time and prepared Look after instrument (including voice) Be able to learn contemporary music quickly for a show.

The many responsibilities for a Composer or Songwriter include to keep to a deadline, work with the performer so that the song/composition is at their level of singing/performance, compose a song for a famous singer/band and compose music for a special event. The many responsibilities for a musical director or conductor include to execute clear indications & shape the sound of the ensemble/group, set the tempo & execute clear indications by conducting, guide the band/orchestra/choir, relay ideas to the performers and Schedule rehearsals.

The many responsibilities for a Sound Engineer include to choose suitable microphones & equipment for the band's performance, position & rig & de rig microphones, do soundchecks so performers are happy, run the sound desk during show and look after the equipment.

The many responsibilities of a roadie include to carry equipment from trucks/vans into show, set up before event (rig the show), Look after/support the equipment stage, lights, and pack away at the end of the event.

Instrumental support (to fix instruments when they inevitably become broken)

Give advice about best use of equipment

Complete sound checks for the artist. This is to check if the instruments needed for use work with no problems. This is a huge responsibility as if this is not done it would ruin the performance.

In terms for funding, I think that the area relating most to me is funding to buy equipment so I can make music from home. The prince's trust is a funding source for any vulnerable teenagers who are in trouble of being excluded from their form of education. The PRS foundation can help with my funding for my career. This includes getting equipment for a home studio or external instruments to record into a software. The Musicians Union can help me with developing my career as a musician and funding
