A1 Professional identities within the music industry

Some of my personal qualities/skills include a good knowledge of music, punctuality, and time management. Skills like these are important for most parts of a career in the music industry including Networking and Collaboration with other artists. It is important to work well as part of a team because it can improve many of your skills including Teamwork and time management (about you know how to put time aside to work with someone on something for a project)

The four primary areas of the music industry are Live Sound Record Labels Music Publishing and Artist Management.

Live Sound

Live sound mixing is the blending of multiple sound sources by an audio engineer using a mixing console or software. Sounds that are mixed include those from instruments and voices which are picked up by microphones and pre-recorded material, such as songs on CD or a digital audio player.

Artist management

An artist manager is an individual who guides the professional career of artists in the entertainment industry. Famous artist managers include Frank DiLeo who is most famous for managing Michael Jackson who is one of my favourite artists to listen to.

Record Labels

A record label, or record company, is a brand or trademark of music recordings and music videos, or the company that owns it. Famous record labels include Geffen records , Epic Records and Motown records. Motown in particular is one of the most iconic record labels as it is home to artists such as Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye.

Music Publisher

A music publisher is a type of publisher that specializes in distributing music. Music publishers originally published sheet music. When copyright became legally protected, music publishers started to play a role in the management of the intellectual property of composers. Famous music publishers include Sony records which for many years owns the entire catalogue of singer/songwriter Michael Jackson.

Organisation is the ability to be systematic and efficient. Strong organisational skills are proved by planning your time and your workload effectively. An ability to meet deadlines will provide recruiters with the evidence that you have good organisational skills.

Professional etiquette is an unwritten code of conduct about the interactions among the members in a. business setting. When proper professional etiquette is used, all involved can feel more. comfortable, and things tend to flow more smoothly.

The key to a good working relationship with your advisor, your committee, and your department is to understand what they expect of you and what you can expect of them. Norms for behaviours, attitudes, and roles exist and your goal is to work with your advisor to agree on what they are. You will also need to explore what a dissertation or thesis means to your advisor, your committee, your department, and your discipline. Without a clear-cut sense of the mutual expectations and responsibilities, you may find your dissertation or thesis process derailed before it has even begun.
